HURRICANE — Authorities have identified the 18-year-old Las Vegas man who drowned at Sand Hollow State Park on Saturday.
Christian Jeffrey Fisher had been swimming with three other people in the "dive park" area at the reservoir, a common location for swimming, Sand Hollow park manager Candace Smith said.
She said swimmers often try to make it to an island in the water and, due to past drowning incidents and an attempt to mitigate the risk, a "swimming dock" was installed by a past manager for people to stop to catch their breath.
Authorities were called at 2:20 p.m. after the victim did not resurface, and search and rescue members found the man 19 feet under the water about two hours later.
Smith thinks the wind might have caused more waves, making it harder for swimmers that day. She has asked anyone in the water to remember to wear a life vest.
